ELECTRIC STILLNESS

ASSIGNED RESEARCH PROJECT WORK - FOR POLITECNICO DI MILANO
Milan, Italy · 2026

TREND FORECASTING & NEW TREND DEVELOPMENT:
Ourania Tyliou

The project brief at POLI.design, Politecnico di Milano, asked us to develop a new sensorial trend for 2026 and beyond. Electric Stillness is my response to this brief.

Acceleration, instability, sensory overload and the contradiction between hyperconnectivity and isolation form the starting point of the research.

Through color, materiality and light, these observations take physical form. Contrasts between the raw and the refined, the dense and the translucent, the eroded and the reflective shape compositions that bear traces of pressure, time and transformation.

The experiments are developed further through art direction and the photography of the material compositions. Texture, shadow, the placement of objects and controlled lighting become tools for exploring this emotional state.

Electric Stillness aims to provoke a deeper existential unease, raising questions about human alienation, sensory overload and the paradox of connectivity that ultimately isolates. Its apparent stillness remains charged, like a moment in which nothing happens, yet everything seems on the verge of happening.
